2019 NFL Draft: 2nd round mock draft
By Joe Romano
45. Los Angeles Rams—Trayvon Mullen CB Clemson
The Los Angeles Rams traded out of the first round to allow the Giants to take Georgia corner DeAndre Baker. It was a surprise move considering corner may be the biggest need for this Rams team. Instead they can stay put and still get a talented cover guy in Clemson’s Trayvon Mullen. He may not have made many plays on the ball but has the skills and traits to be a top tier corner in the NFL. Learning from Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters will do him wonders and allow him to maximize his talent at the next level.
46. Indianapolis Colts—Chauncey Gardner-Johnson S Florida
The second of three picks in the second round for the Colts goes to the defensive side of the ball with versatile defensive back Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. With Malik Hooker playing the back end of the defense, Gardner-Johnson can thrive in a role around the line of scrimmage. He excels blitzing off the edge despite not being a bigger safety. For this defense he can be a matchup player for bigger slots or tight ends while providing run support. Hooker/Gardner-Johnson is an exciting duo for the Colts defense.
47. Carolina Panthers—Elgton Jenkins G Miss. State
Carolina was able to address its biggest need in the first round by selection pass rusher Brian Burns to man the edge. The Panthers stay in the trenches but jump to offense to grab an elite center prospect. Mississippi State’s Elgton Jenkins is an athletic interior offensive lineman who can take over for the departed Ryan Kalil in protecting Cam Newton. Getting better up front has to be a priority for the Panthers and they already addressed it by signing Matt Paradis this offseason. Jenkins can play at guard next to Paradis and opposite Trae Turner to give the Panthers a stellar trio in the middle.
48. Miami Dolphins—Cody Ford OL Oklahoma
This is the pick that is the one that is most likely to be moved for Arizona quarterback Josh Rosen. If Miami instead opts to keep the pick, grabbing a trench player in Oklahoma Cody Ford makes sense. The Dolphins lost Josh Sutton this offseason and have discussed placing a priority at winning inside out on both sides of the ball. Christian Wilkins in the first round certainly speaks to that. Ford played tackle at Oklahoma but could be an excellent guard at the next level. A powerful player with great athleticism, Ford can be a Pro Bowl-caliber guard and protect whoever is the long-term answer at quarterback for the Dolphins.
