Atlanta Falcons: C-

The Falcons clearly went into this draft with an intention to improve their protection of Matt Ryan. Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary will do that, but neither gave Atlanta great value where they were drafted.

The lack of second and third round selections really makes the look group thin as well. They’re going to need someone from Day Three to exceed expectations to make this class look good in the future.

Carolina Panthers: A

Brian Burns had a questionable motor in college, but his potential made him a good gamble for the Panthers in Round 1. Moving up in Round 2 to select Greg Little was a better move by Marty Hurney and company. He could start at left tackle Week 1 for Carolina.

The third round acquisition of Will Grier is also a sneaky good move for Ron Rivera’s team. Cam Newton has struggled to stay healthy. Grier will give them a legitimate backup for the first time since Derek Anderson left town. The Panthers kept things simple and it turned into a really good class as a result.

New Orleans Saints: B+

Sean Payton’s team didn’t have a lot of picks to work with, but they got good value where they did make selections. Erik McCoy won’t be a star, but he’ll be solid starter for years to come.

Finding a way to nab Chauncey Gardner-Johnson in the fourth round was an even bigger coup for the Saints. He should play meaningful snaps early in his rookie season for a defense that needs a little more verve in the final third.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: D

Buccaneers fans should feel good about the chances of Devin White to make a lot of plays as a rookie. Unfortunately, not a lot of his classmates are likely to give him much help.

Sean Bunting in Round 2 was a really bad choice. He’ll struggle to play as a rookie. They need to hope Jamel Dean and Mike Edwards can pick up his slack in the secondary. This really wasn’t a good three days for Tampa Bay.
