Washington Redskins

Grade: A

Best pick: Montez Sweat (EDGE, Mississippi State)

Questionable pick: Bryce Love (RB, Stanford)

Sleeper pick: Terry McLaurin (WR, Ohio State)

Washington was one of several teams heading into Day 1 of the draft on track for a quarterback, and they got one in Dwayne Haskins, although some reports suggested the entire organization wasn’t on board with that plan. Whether or not there was agreement within the building, Haskins offers plenty of tools and upside to be worthy of a first-round selection and the team lucked out in getting him by virtue of a certain team within its own division reaching for a different quarterback.

Their first-round wasn’t over, however, as Washington opted to trade back up into the first round to take the sliding Montez Sweat, a tremendous value at the end of the first round. The team’s medical staff is clearly okay with Sweat’s heart condition going forward and as a result, they may have added potentially the pass rusher with the highest ceiling in the entire draft. You won’t find many guys at Sweat’s size running the 40 in 4.41 seconds, so expect him to be a real force to be reckoned with in Washington’s defense.

It’s really difficult to nitpick in terms of value with the rest of Washington’s draft, with maybe the exception of Stanford’s Bryce Love, who is a dynamic player but has an ACL injury in his past. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin and cornerback Jimmy Moreland were among two of my favorite players to study during the draft process and should be excellent additions to their respective sides of the ball in terms of attitude and production.
