14. Cary and Brooke Dubek on The Other Two

Following in the footsteps of Abbi and Ilana on Broad City (who, spoilers, will make an appearance later on this list, obviously), Cary and Brooke Dubek made their debut on Comedy Central’s equally crazy and sharply funny new series The Other Two. From former Saturday Night Live writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, the series follows Drew Tarver and Heléne York’s titular other two as they watch their 13-year-old brother rise to fame while struggling with their own lives.

Cary and Brooke are something of a breath of fresh air as comedy characters, since they are just unlikable enough to make them relatable. They are us and we are them, or have been at some point or another in our lives. However, they don’t eschew likability like the characters on Girls, where you cringed as they continuously made the very worst decisions. Instead, they make the normal mistakes, like dating the wrong people or throwing on a false persona to “impress” a date. No matter what they do, we still would definitely hang out with Cary and Brooke.

Now that Broad City has bid its final farewell, it’s up to Cary and Brooke to take the reins as our aspirational hot messes using New York City as their playground. Whether Brooke’s surprisingly killing it as Chase’s assistant or Cary’s starring in a questionable play while daydreaming about his problematic roommate, they’re doing their best and making us laugh along the way. The Other Two boasts smart jokes and smarter commentary about everything from queer culture to the entertainment industry. But it’s also got two of the most lovable leads on TV.
