San Francisco 49ers: Dee Ford and Nick Bosa

The 49ers pick made the most logical choice with the second pick in the draft. They picked a player they could plug into their front seven to dominate from day one. Bosa was one of, if not the most NFL ready prospect in this draft. The 49ers will likely start Bosa on the opposite end of Dee Ford in their 4-3 defensive scheme, giving them a top-tier pass rusher on both sides of the line. Ford is coming off of a career year in which he recorded 13 sacks and 29 quarterback hits. Bosa only played three games at Ohio State last year, but that was enough for him to tally up four sacks and six tackles for a loss.

While there are some questions on whether Ford can put it together for more than one season and stay healthy, the upside is certainly there. Bosa also looks like a carbon copy of his brother, Joey, who is one of the most dominant defensive ends in football. The ceiling for these two players coming off the ends is one of the highest in the league, if they can both stay healthy they could combine for 20-25 sacks per year for the next four years. The 49ers will need this production from them as they play in a division with Russell Wilson, Jared Goff, and now, Kyler Murray.

Injuries seem to be the only thing that can slow this pairing down. Ford struggled with injuries throughout his tenure in Kansas City that sidelined him for nearly a whole season and slowed his production in others. Bosa is coming off of a core injury that limited him to three games at Ohio State this past season. His brother has also struggled with injuries in the past as well. Injuries could lead to the downfall of this pairing in the long run, but if they stay on the field the 49ers will have a 28-year-old defensive end coming off a career year, and the best edge rusher in the draft to terrorize offensive lines in the NFC West.
