14. Anthony Rendon

Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon might be the most underrated star in the game. Playing in the shadow of Bryce Harper for an entire career will do that for a guy. With Harper now playing in Philadelphia and the responsibility of leading the Washington offense falling on his shoulders, Rendon may finally receive the recognition he deserves.

Rendon has never made an All-Star team despite finishing in the top-10 in the NL MVP vote twice. He is a career .287/.363/.476 hitter with 211 doubles, 108 home runs and 438 RBI. Rendon has hit .305/.389/.534 with 85 doubles, 49 home runs and 192 RBI over the past two seasons. He is off to a hot start in 2019 while being asked to carry the Nationals without Harper. Rendon has hit .371/.451/.771 through his first 19 games with six home runs and 18 RBI. He’s due for a slight cooling off, but Rendon looks ready to lead the Nationals and finally make the All-Star Game for the first time.

Anonymous outside of D.C. or not, Rendon is a legitimate MLB star and is definitely one of the 15 best players in the league. He is working on extension talks with the Nationals, but the two sides are not close. Rendon is seeking over $160 million, but those types of contracts have been hard to come by for free agents entering their age-30 season. It’s possible Rendon caves and takes slightly less to avoid a long, arduous free agency like every other star last winter.
