22. Washington Nationals, 12-16, 4th in the NL East (ranked 20th last week)

The Nats are tail spinning after losing 7 of their last 10 games and having not won a series in almost two weeks. Only the Orioles have a higher bullpen ERA than the Nationals and outside of Sean Doolittle, the entire group seems to be struggling. And to make matters worse, Anthony Rendon is heading to the 10-day IL after missing his last three games due to an elbow contusion. Washington has one of the most talented rosters in baseball on paper, but the group hasn’t been able to play up to their potential during Dave Martinez’ time as manager.

21. Oakland Athletics, tied for 4th in the AL West (ranked 17th last week)

Oakland was expected to regress some after surprising 2018 campaign saw them win 95 games and earn a wild card spot. But after losing 4 games in a row and 7 of their last 10, the A’s power outage from Khris Davis has coincided with their runs per game dipping some from the start of the season. However, the A’s are looking to get healthier in the month of May as 1B Matt Olson is expected to return sometime this May after breaking his right hand. Good news is that starter Chris Bassitt has been excellent in two starts since being activated from the IL, hopefully, he can help the pitching staff pull itself together as the offense tries to reignite their engine.
