18. Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-14, 4th in the NL Central (ranked 12th last week)

A week ago the Pirates were sitting atop of the NL Central division, but an 8-game losing streak, the Pirates are now 5.5 back in the division. Pittsburgh pitching has been excellent all season long, particularly Joe Musgrove with a 2.06 ERA and 31 strikeouts compared to just 7 walks on the year. But none of that matters when the entire team is batting .228 with just 21 home runs, the 2nd fewest in the league until the Pirates start hitting their pitching will continue to be wasted.

17. Toronto Blue Jays, 14-15, 3rd in the AL Central (ranked 21st last week)

Winners of 7 of their last 10 games, Toronto’s pitching is finally getting some run support, but 6 of those 7 games came against Oakland who is about as cold as any other team in baseball at the moment. Veteran infielder Eric Sogard is on fire right now, after not hitting a single home run in 2018, he currently has three of them in his last 5 games. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was finally called up, and while he hasn’t quite adjusted to MLB pitching yet, baseball’s top prospect has helped spark interest in the Blue Jays and should continue to grow into an elite player. But Toronto still isn’t close to competing, expect the team to cool off after the hype surrounding Vlad Jr. dies down.
