3. Wolves secure seventh place with win over Fulham

On Saturday two of last season’s promoted sides will go head-to-head as Wolves host Fulham. At the start of the season it’s hard to imagine that Wolves would be challenging to be the “best of the rest” outside the top six while Fulham would be fighting for survival.

The Cottagers spent over £100 million in last year’s summer transfer window but they have failed miserably in the Premier League. The one positive for Fulham is the fact that Scott Parker has done a very good job as interim boss. Considering what he’s done with this team, it would be a shame if he were not to get the job on a full-time basis.

Wolves have had a phenomenal season and this has not just been in the league as Nuno Espirito Santo almost led his side to the FA Cup final too. Nuno has built a brilliant squad that is mixed with foreign talent and domestic stars.

Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota have been wonderful up front for Wolves whilst the likes of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves have been the brilliant orchestrators in the midfield. Connor Coady, Willy Boly and Matt Doherty have been standouts in a back line who’ve not just done their defensive duties but also contributed with important goals.

Despite Fulham’s resurgence under Scott Parker, it’s hard to see past a Wolves victory this weekend. If Nuno’s team do manage to take all three points then they’ll almost certainly secure seventh place — a ridiculous achievement for a newly-promoted side.

Fulham will hold strong for the first 30 minutes but Jimenez will grab a goal for Wolves before half-time. The second half will be closely contested but once again the home side will come out on top, this time with Neves finding the back of the net from distance to secure a 2-0 win.
