4. SS Jazz Chisholm

Jazz Chisholm is the No. 1 prospect in the Diamondbacks’ system, as tabbed by MLB.com, with a big-league ETA of 2020. But after hitting 25 home runs over two levels last year, and hitting .442 in the Arizona Fall League, he already has nine home runs and 15 RBI at Double-A this year.

Chisholm is only hitting .176 thus far though, with a bushel load of strikeouts to go with his power (40 in 108 plate appearances entering Monday). So he needs to refine his approach at the plate, though it’s worth noting he has struck out just once in 10 of his last 13 games. And to be fair, the stigma attached to strike outs has been greatly diminished in recent years.

Beyond his raw tools and looking at some notable numbers, the Diamondbacks should be able to get a fair and full evaluation of Chisholm’s readiness to make the jump to the big leagues as this season goes on. If an eye on 2020 eventually becomes the priority, or even if Arizona sticks around in the playoff race, there may not be much in the way of Chisholm and a taste of Major League action before this season is out.
