2. 2B/SS Domingo Leyba

Domingo Leyba is closer to the big leagues than Chisholm, with the ability to play both middle infield spots as well. In his first run against Triple-A pitching this year, he’s hitting .321 with three home runs (12 extra base hits), 15 RBI and an .869 OPS entering Monday.

Leyba has shown himself to be a free swinger at the plate, with 46 strikeouts and 35 walks over 83 games at Double-A last year. But 2018 was also a sign of a better approach at the plate, with strikeout and walk rates trending the right direction. His power numbers from the left side have also improved over the last two seasons, with presumed room for growth possible there as a right-handed hitter if he keeps being a switch-hitter.

The Diamondbacks have been using the glove-first Nick Ahmed at shortstop and utility man Wilmer Flores at second base, with Ketel Marte mixed in at both to go with his time in center field. It’s hard to guarantee that Leyba would be a notable upgrade over any of them (Ahmed and Flores in particular), but he is pushing for an opportunity that seems sure to come soon. He simply shouldn’t be held back if he continues to hit at Reno.
