G. Indiana. Romeo Langford. 14. player. 69.

Alright, without further ado, yes the Celtics are trading for Anthony Davis in make-believe land this week. You might be getting off this train after Boston’s abysmal Game 4 loss at home to go down 3-1 in the second round, but we’re not. Even if Kyrie Irving leaves, the Celtics’ plans won’t change. Davis has always been Plan A.

It actually seems as if the Irving situation materialized unexpectedly and Boston simply was in a better position to capitalize than most teams. As the Celtics rebuilt from the Kevin Garnett era, it never looked as if Irving or even a player like him was their top target. They traded for Isaiah Thomas, drafted Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier — point guard has never been a big need for the Celtics. A dominant, versatile big man, though? Oh yeah.

So here’s the trade:

Boston gets Anthony Davis

New Orleans gets Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams III, Semi Ojeleye, Aron Baynes, 2019 No. 20 pick, 2019 No. 14 pick, future Memphis first-round pick (protected 1-6 in 2020)

With the 14th pick, New Orleans snags a high-upside scoring guard in Langford who can create his own shot in a variety of contexts. Langford can use his size to score out of the pick-and-roll, knock down spot-up 3s, and go into the post.
