F. Limoges. Sekou Doumbouya. 9. player. 125.

Let’s get a few things out of the way about Doumbouya:

  • We have no idea what he is. In national team competition, Doumbouya was more of a bigger lead playmaker a la Ben Simmons. For CSP Limoges, Doumbouya is a complete role player, taking mostly spot-up 3s and transition shots.
  • Doumbouya’s ability to create for teammates indeed is less clear this year. He has 40 turnovers compared with just 25 assists, showing just how raw he is.
  • Doumbouya is a sneaky athlete. Compared with most European players, Doumbouya explodes off the court.

More from Sam Vecenie of The Athletic:

"“Overall, I’m encouraged that Doumbouya has figured things out quickly, but still question how ready for the NBA he is simply due to his inexperience at high levels to this stage. There’s a real chance that he might need an extra year of seasoning, or else the team that picks him may be wasting one or two valuable seasons of his entry-level contract.”"

Atlanta uniquely has the roster space and need on the wing to develop Doumbouya behind the scenes while still competing with their other young core players. The Hawks could legitimately make a run to the playoffs next year and Doumbouya simply becomes a reinforcement later on.
