4. Atlanta Braves

Unlike some other teams on this list, the Braves would massively benefit from adding a veteran ace to their rotation. The biggest obstacle for Atlanta in making a deal for Bumgarner is all the young talent they’d be required to give up in the trade.

This just doesn’t seem like the right season for the Braves’ front office to go all-in to make a World Series run. That is precisely what swinging a trade for Bumgarner would signal to fans in Atlanta. 2020 seems like the most likely season for the Braves to try to consolidate their talent and make a massive postseason run.

At the moment, Atlanta is riding the triumvirate of Julio Teheran, Max Fried and Mike Soroka to anchor their rotation. Soroka, in particular, has been dominant in his five starts. He’s pitching to an ERA of just 1.21 in 29.2 innings.

Adding Bumgarner would likely make the Braves the favorites in the NL East, but he still might not be enough to make them legitimate World Series contenders. That’s why they will be better served to wait until the offseason or next year’s trade deadline before making a move of this magnitude.
