Auburn football week-by-week predictions

Game 1: vs. Oregon (AT&T Stadium)

Auburn started 2018 off great by beating eventually Pac-12 champions Washington in the first week, and they do the same in 2019. Outside of Justin Herbert, Oregon has a lot of questions and Auburn’s defensive will too much for the Ducks.

Result: Win

Game 2: vs. Tulane

Regardless of what the offense looks like out the gates, the talent gap between Auburn and Tulane is so vast that this will likely be a blowout. Perhaps this is the game where whoever is starting at quarterback can gain so much-needed confidence.

Result: Win

Game 3: vs. Kent State

This is another case where the overwhelming talent gap should take over and lead to a comfortable victory for the Tigers. And with this win, they are off to a nice 3-0 start which will give them some wiggle room as the head into the brutal SEC schedule.

Result: Win

Game 4: at Texas A&M

Last season Auburn got the best of Texas A&M in a close fought 28-24 game where they were outplayed for the most part. Fourteen points in the final 5:14 of the game and so huge stops by the defense allowed the Tigers to steal one, but the Aggies don’t let that happen again in 2019.

Result: Loss

Game 5: vs. Miss State

Much like Auburn, Mississippi State has a lot of people to replace in 2019. Longtime quarterback Nick Fitzgerald wasn’t great by any stretch, but he was a known commodity. Uncertainty at the position is not what you want when you’re playing this Auburn defensive line, and they could take this game over.

Result: Win

Game 6: at Florida

Dan Mullen revitalized Florida football last season, and they will be serious competitors in the SEC East. Both teams have good defenses, but Florida has a few more proven players on their offense and should be able to edge out a victory at home.

Result: Loss

Game 7: at Arkansas

Arkansas is a mess at the moment, and there is no reason to think they take a big leap in 2019. Auburn is far more talented than they are so regardless of it being a road game the Tigers should be able to handle business.

Result: Win

Game 8: at LSU

It is weird to see this game being played so late in the season given it’s usually one of the first big-time SEC matchups of the year. Hopefully, we get a game that rivals their 2018 battle which LSU won 22-21 with a field goal as time expired. In 2019, this is another game where the experience at quarterback is going to make a huge difference and favor LSU.

Result: Loss

Game 9: vs. Ole Miss

Ole Miss had multiple players drafted to the NFL this past April and so how still went 5-7. Now with all that production to replace and underwhelming coaching this should be a game Auburn wins. They also need to win this game as they will be facing their toughest opponents in two of the following three games.

Result: Win

Game 10: vs. Georgia

There is an argument to be made that this could be Auburn’s signature win of 2019, but it just seems unlikely even with the home field advantage. One important historical note to mention is that this could be the last time the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is played in its usual late November slot for a while. Something that hasn’t happened in over 80 years.

Result: Loss

Game 11: vs. Samford

The proverbial cupcake before the Iron Bowl has become somewhat of a running joke among college football fans for both Auburn and Alabama. The last six season Auburn has scheduled a less than the formidable opponent and this year is no different.

Result: Win

Game 12: vs. Alabama

Result: The only rivalry that matches the Iron Bowl is Michigan vs. Ohio State, so no matter the record this is a must watch game. The home crowd should help Auburn keep it close for a while, but the talent gap on both sides of the ball still favors Crimson Tide.

Result: Loss

Final Record: 7-5 (3-5 in the SEC)
