A look at Bethpage Black

Bethpage Black has become one of the greatest golf courses in the United States. It had the distinction of being the first publicly owned and operated course to host a major championship when it welcomed the U.S. Open in 2002, an event won by Woods. America’s national championship returned to Long Island in 2009 and Bethpage Black has also hosted The Barclays event twice as part of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

In addition to plans to host that tournament twice more over the next eight years, Bethpage will also bring a massive homefield advantage to the U.S. team at the 2024 Ryder Cup. The fans at Bethpage have no problem getting vocal, which should make for another thrilling week as the 2019 PGA Championship gets underway early Thursday morning.

There was some concern when the PGA Championship moved from August to May because of New York weather in the spring. After some rainfall earlier this week, the forecast is calling for better conditions later in the week. That doesn’t mean that the course isn’t going to continue to play long. At just under 7,500 yards on the scorecard, Bethpage played even longer during some practice rounds due to the moisture and chilly temperatures. However, officials are confident that the course will play better than it ever has and it will be great to see how the players attempt to tame this par-70 track.

Here’s a quick look at how Bethpage Black will be playing for the 101st edition of the PGA Championship.
