1. Devin Funchess

Devin Funchess doesn’t have the worst wide receiver contract, but he is the most overpaid guy in the NFL in 2019. His one-year deal with the Colts is going to pay him $10 million. He hopes he can prove his worth and get back on the market for a big deal prior to the 2020 campaign.

Nothing about Funchess’ last season in Carolina portends stardom. He started the season as Cam Newton’s No. 1 target but was gradually pushed to the periphery of the rotation as the season progressed. He ended his 2018 campaign with an ugly stat line of 44 catches for 549 yards and four touchdowns.

The Colts hope that Funchess can use his size to become a productive target for Andrew Luck. In truth, it’s a good situation for the former Panthers standout. He does have above-average size for the position and when he’s playing his best football, he’s shown an ability to make tough catches in traffic.

On the flip side, Funchess is one of the least dynamic players with the ball in the entire NFL. He’s thoroughly incapable of making anyone miss in space. He’s much more like a big, traditional tight end after he’s able to make the catch. The lack of any juice with the ball in his hands severely limits his value.

The Colts aren’t hurt by this contract due to all the cap space they possess, but it’s still a blatant overpay. Funchess is the most overpaid receiver in the entire NFL.
