Fantasy Baseball 2019: Week 7 Weekend Waiver Wire Hitters
By Bill Pivetz
There are a few extra bats worth adding off the waiver wire for your fantasy baseball team after a few prospects got the call to the majors.
Finding a replacement hitter for your fantasy baseball team is a bit easier than finding a replacement pitcher. Though, if you are looking for batting average, you may be in trouble. With the end of Week 7 coming up, I have a few hitters you can add to your team to finish the week strong.
To make things even better for those looking for a hitter, a few teams called up a prospect from the minors. Whether it’s a short-term call-up to replace an injured player or a permanent change to help spark the offense, a new player in the lineup is exciting for both real and fantasy baseball.
Not all prospects dominant as soon as they’re called up. Vlad Guerrero Jr. struggled in his first few games. If you add one of the new players, don’t fret if they go 0-for-3 in their first game. Manage your expectations and reap the rewards when they do hit.

I have a couple of prospects among the four waiver wire adds. As usual, they will have ownership percentages under 40 percent in ESPN leagues.
Austin Riley, ATL
Riley made a big splash in his first MLB game, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run. He followed that up with a three-hit game. The Braves put Ender Inciarte on the 10-day IL, opening a spot for Riley.
Though, Riley’s stay could last longer when Inciarte is eligible to return. He’s hitting .218 with nine RBIs this season. Riley hit .299 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs before getting the call.
Franmil Reyes, SD
I’ve talked about Reyes earlier in the season. Yet, some people don’t want to listen. He’s hitting .292 with three home runs and five RBIs over the last week. While his .266 average isn’t the best, he has quietly hit 14 home runs with 25 RBIs.
The Padres have a bunch of outfielders in their system though none are hitting as well as Reyes. He leads the team in home runs and RBI. The right fielder needs to be owned in more leagues.
Willie Calhoun, TEX
With Elvis Andrus landing on the IL, Calhoun got the call to take his roster spot. In his first two games with the team, he has two home runs, five RBIs and a .500 average.
As of now, they are pretty full in the outfield with Hunter Pence reemerging, Nomar Mazara and Joey Gallo and Shin-Soo Choo as the designated hitter. So, playing time may be an issue at first but if he keeps hitting like this, the Rangers will be forced to make a spot for him.
Brendan Rodgers, COL
The Rockies are also dealing with an injury. Shortstop Trevor Story is dealing with a knee issue but he is not expected to land on the IL. The right side of the infield has been an issue with the Rockies most of the season, with Daniel Murphy, Ryan McMahon and Garrett Hampson not hitting well.
Mark Reynolds has taken over first base duties with McMahon manning second for the time being. Rodgers is expected to play second against the Phillies. By the time this posts, the games will have already started
He may have not gotten a mention but playing in Colorado boosts him over some of the other options. Plus, finding a good second baseman at this point is tough.
Honorable Mention: Oscar Mercado, CLE; Jonathan Lucroy, LAA
If I had room on my team, I’d add all four of these players. There isn’t much speed to be had but that’s a stat you’ll struggle to find on the waiver wire. These players will contribute to power and contact, which helps four of the five major hitting categories. Stay tuned to Fantasy CPR for all the latest fantasy news and analysis each and every day!
