Week-by-week predictions

Game 1: vs. Georgia Southern

This should be a good tuneup for the Tigers as they begin the season at home. Expect perhaps a little rust early but for them to run away with things as the game wears on. Backup Myles Brennan should be in to take snaps at some point.

Result: Win

Game 2: at Texas

This is the big one early for the Tigers. It’s going to probably be the game of the week and for America, we’re really going to find out if Texas is indeed back. On the road is going to be tough, but Ed Orgeron knows how to have his team ready to play. This is where the experience of a senior quarterback comes into play. Look for LSU to steal one on the road and to build some serious momentum.

Result: Win

Game 3: vs. Northwestern State

The Tigers return home to get what should be an easy non-conference game against Northwestern State. Count this one as a win and don’t overthink it either.

Result: Win

Game 4: at Vanderbilt

The first conference game of the season for the Tigers is a road tilt against Vanderbilt. The Commodores are the right team for LSU to kick off conference play with. Typically, opening SEC play requires jumping into the deep end. A nice slow step into the shallow end with a hand railing should suffice here.

Result: Win

Game 5: vs. Utah State

The Tigers return home for their final non-conference game against Utah State. The Aggies have given some teams scares in the past and maybe a trap game exists, but realistically this is another LSU win.

Result: Win

Game 6: vs. Florida

This is where things start to get interesting for LSU. In 2018, the Tigers were set up for something special until they got derailed in a loss to Florida. This time it’s in Baton Rouge and the Tigers will be out to exact a little revenge.

Result: Win

Game 7: at Mississippi State

Starkville could prove to be a difficult place to play for the Tigers and don’t be surprised if an instant classic breaks out here. Still, the Tigers persevere and pull one out on the shoulders of some experienced starters.

Result: Win

Game 8: vs. Auburn

Auburn’s always a wild card in the SEC. They’re either a draw four or a pick any color. Essentially, you’re getting either a team that’s going to upend your season or one that’s going to roll in with a disappointing thud. This should be a competitive game with the Tigers picking up an eighth straight win to begin the season. Which of course leads into the big game.

Result: Win

Game 9: at Alabama

It’s LSU and it’s Alabama. If both teams are undefeated at this point, they could very well be the top two teams in the nation. It looked like both teams were going to be undefeated when they met last season until Florida upset the Tigers. Still, the Tigers will look to upset Alabama on the road this season. That’s a tall task and Tua Tagovailoa probably does some incredible stuff to help the Tide pull away. It’s a tough first loss to the season.

Result: Loss

Game 10: at Ole Miss

This is another trap game on the schedule. Should LSU lose to Alabama, will they come out motivated against Ole Miss? Or will there be a hangover of sorts? This could be a sluggish effort from the Tigers that leads to a Rebels upset. Yes, Ole Miss is missing plenty of weapons and this could just as easily be an LSU blowout victory but don’t discount the post-playing Alabama effect.

Result: Loss

Game 11: vs. Arkansas

Back at home, the Tigers will probably look to finish strong with their final two contests coming in front of a rabid home crowd. Expect the Tigers to come out with plenty of energy and to take the fight to Arkansas.

Result: Win

Game 12: vs. Texas A&M

It’s highly doubtful that these two programs go seven overtimes again. It was a game no one is ever going to forget. There’s going to be some extra juice for the Tigers in this one as they want to avenge that loss and figure the regular season with a win.

Result: Win

Final Record: 10-2 (6-2 in the SEC)
