WNBA Season Preview 2019: Every team’s best case scenario

Las Vegas Aces: A’ja Wilson and Liz Cambage are the next coming of Tim Duncan and David Robinson
It’s not often that a No. 1 draft pick is hardly a topic of conversation heading into a team’s season. But that’s exactly the case in Las Vegas, who topped their No. 1 selection of Jackie Young with a low-cost trade for center Liz Cambage. Last year’s No. 1 pick, A’ja Wilson, joined legends Cynthia Cooper and Seimone Augustus as the third player ever to average more than 20 points as a rookie. Now she’ll join forces with Cambage, who has the highest per-minute scoring rate in WNBA history.
This alliance will require rolling the clock back a few years, as neither big has an established 3-point shot. However, the Wilson-Cambage duo could be a great example of zigging where others zag: other teams around the league just might not have the bodies to keep up with two punishing interior scorers. (Oh, and don’t forget about the Aces’ third No. 1 overall pick, Kelsey Plum, whose outside shot will no doubt benefit from all that attention inside.) This is the type of dynamic addition that would surprise no one if it propelled the Aces from a 14-game winner to champion.
