Phoenix Mercury: Win 55 percent of the games in Diana Taurasi’s absence

It’s of course bad news for the Mercury that Diana Taurasi will be out for most of the regular season. The good news is that the Mercury have played for years like they are indifferent to regular season wins anyway. All the Mercury need to do is keep pace ahead of the four rebuilding teams in order to make the playoffs — and once the Mercury are in the playoffs, that regular season record goes right out the window when Taurasi, inevitably, starts angrily raining down 3s from everywhere. That said, a nice, respectable winning record would be nice for the 36-year-old to come back to.
