WNBA Season Preview 2019: Every team’s best case scenario

Connecticut Sun: Jonquel Jones becomes an All-Star Starter
The Sun’s trade of former No. 1 overall pick Chiney Ogwumike to the Sparks felt, at first, like Connecticut was simply facilitating a storybook set-up for the Ogwumike sisters. But, given Connecticut’s league-best depth, there’s an argument to be made that the Sun were doing some addition by subtraction. In the 2017 season, which Chiney missed due to injury, homegrown draft pick Jones made the All-Star team in just her second season.
In 2018, however, Jones made way for Ogwumike in the starting lineup while taking a huge cut to her minutes — eventually earning Sixth Player of the Year but missing out on an All-Star selection. So far, coach Curt Miller has built a 10-deep roster based on Communist-style basketball, with five different players averaging double-digits last year. That could change this year if Jones, a 6-foot-6 forward with 43.9 percent career 3-point accuracy, takes the next step forward and quietly takes control of the team.
