Seattle Storm: Pursue playoff wins, or look to become aggressive sellers at the Trade Deadline?

Unfortunately for Storm fans, Seattle’s 2019 season provides the best test case about a star’s value to their team since Michael Jordan went to play baseball. Seattle’s 26-8 juggernaut from last year was linked to return virtually fully intact — before reigning MVP Breanna Stewart sustained her season-ending Achilles injury. Unlike Minnesota, who were able to calibrate their entire approach to free agency around the absence of Moore, the Storm only have a few short weeks to gather themselves between Stewart’s injury and the start of the regular season.

However, just like Minnesota, it’s unclear what counts as a successful season in Seattle. Is it best to not hold back at all, and hopefully bring a few playoff games back to the rabid Pacific Northwest fanbase? Or, considering that the Storm already have the most money committed to 2020 before either Stewart or Sue Bird are under contract, are they best served by looking to trade veteran role players at the deadline and become younger for next year — even if it means breaking up the band?
