Delaware – Jamie Duncan

If you didn’t know it, the University of Delaware, and the state as a whole, actually has a pretty impressive history (in general, and in terms of football). Recently, that success has tailed off, however, with Delaware’s last impressive belt notch coming in 2010, as the FCS runner-up.

Jamie Duncan, a linebacker out of Wilmington, went to Vanderbilt where he was a two-time All-American and the 1997 SEC Defensive Player of the Year. From 1994-97, Duncan starred for the Commodores, and would eventually be selected in 2009 as one of the SEC’s Legends of the Game.

In his time as a Commodore, Duncan recorded 425 tackles and was, and is, the only SEC Defensive Player of the Year from the university, despite winning just three games in that season. In his junior year, which would prove to be his best, he recorded 152 total tackles, six sacks, and 14 additional tackles for a loss.

Duncan was later selected in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers and would spend seven seasons in the NFL with a mixture between the Bucs, the Rams, and the Falcons. Though his time in the NFL wasn’t nearly as impressive as he would’ve liked—he put on an absolute show in his time at Vanderbilt, and thus earns the honors here.
