3. Coby White, PG/SG, North Carolina

White is projected to be a top-10 pick, and he’s a combo guard that would bring scoring punch to the Memphis backcourt. He averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game during his lone season at North Carolina, while making over 35 percent from beyond the arc.

Criticisms of White start with a slight frame (6-foot-5, 185 pounds), poor shot selection/a low overall field goal percentage (42.2 percent last year), a low release point on his jump shot, and lackluster decision-making/playing too fast (2.7 turnovers per game last season). But the NBA draft is typically rooted in a perception of upside, and White has a lot of it.

The Grizzlies aren’t taking White with the second overall pick. But if a team below them makes a trade for Mike Conley and includes their pick (the Lakers at No. 4?), White might be in play. If they purely trade down to get another asset, as remote as that possibility is, White would be firmly in play for Memphis a few picks down the draft order.
