2019 NBA Mock Draft: A crazy lottery throws everything into question
The infrastructure in Atlanta, where Trae Young is undoubtedly the primary playmaker and the floor is spaced on every possession, is far better for Reddish to develop even than Duke was as a college player. Reddish came to Duke as a high-caliber scoring prospect but rarely got to show those skills in a tertiary role with the Blue Devils. He said at the combine he feels like he can get back to that level in the NBA in time.
“I feel like I am capable of doing everything on both sides of the floor,” Reddish said. “I’m about to get the opportunity to show that.”
“It was different,” he added. “I’m not usually just a shooter. I’m used to playing more on the ball. I was a (point guard) in high school.”
As for his teammate, Zion Williamson, and the astronomical expectations he will face as a rookie in New Orleans, Reddish said, “I do think it’s a little bit unfair, but I think he’s more than capable of overcoming all that.”
Certainly, the Hawks will do their best to maximize a raw young talent like Reddish if they nab him. By getting so much out of Young right away and building through shooting and versatility, they can get more out of the disappointing freshman than just about any franchise.
