Money in the Banks

Travis Banks and Joseph Conners get the show rolling with the final qualifying match for the fatal four-way to determine the No. 1 contender to the United Kingdom title. Very glad these qualifiers are over, that’s a mouthful to write.

Conners’ whole “deal” is a little confusing at the moment. It feels like they want to sell him as a terrifying psycho killer, but he’s not that imposing nor that crazy nor that good at winning. There was that time a handful of weeks ago where he admonished a turnbuckle for making him slip, which was kind of amusing. Other than that, his main personality trait seems to be “gets too worked up and that somehow costs him the match.” Also, it feels like Ilja Dragunov might already have the “insane but very good at wrestling” thing on lock after one match, so Conners may need a fresh approach soon.

That being said, of course Banks gets the win here. Most of his arc in this match is continuing to kick out of every move Conners throws at him, until Conners gets too frustrated and yells “I AM JOSEPH CONNERS!” very loudly, leading to an opening to hit the Kiwi Crusher for the pinfall. Banks is the undersized underdog the fatal four-way needs. He’s been injured by Joe Coffey, been injured by Jordan Devlin, and while he has no beefs with Dave Mastiff, he dislikes that The Bomber is rather bigger than him. Regardless, the field is set for the fatal four-way. In two weeks, we will have the next challenger to WALTER’s reign as WWE United Kingdom Champion.
