Thiago

Boateng’s teammate Thiago is a player Pep Guardiola knows better than most. Back in 2009, he gave the Italian-born Spanish international his debut at Barcelona before taking him along to Bayern Munich four years later. The pair enjoyed considerable success together and many expected their relationship to continue at City.

For one reason or another, the move has never materialized but the time may finally be right for them to be reunited. City boast one of the best collections of midfielders in the world with the club being home to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho and David Silva but the latter two are in their mid-30s and are unlikely to remain at the club much longer.

Silva, one of City’s all time great players, has already been linked with a move to Qatar and Guardiola will need to start looking for a replacement for his star man. Thiago boasts many of the same qualities as his compatriot, from the silky touch to the incredible vision and would be the perfect candidate to take his place.

This season, the 28-year old recorded three goals and seven assists across all club competitions and completed over ninety percent of the nearly three thousand passes he attempted. His contribution was integral as Bayern Munich narrowly pipped Dortmund to the league title and won the DFB Pokal.

Much like with Guardiola, success follows Thiago wherever he goes and City could be in for a whole lot more of it if they sign him in the summer.
