Bruno Fernandes

It’s hard to imagine City’s attack getting any better than it already is. In Sergio Aguero, the club have one of the Premier League’s great strikers and the Argentine is ably supported by Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva. That’s without even considering the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane.

Where would Bruno Fernandes fit in then? Well, anywhere. The Sporting Lisbon captain operated in both deep and advanced midfield roles, as a forward and on the left-wing and was arguably the standout player in Europe this season. Across all competitions, he scored 31 goals which saw him smash Frank Lampard’s record to become the highest scoring midfielder in a European season. He also recorded 14 assists.

Those figures have seen Fernandes become the top transfer target for a number of the world’s leading clubs and City are said to be leading the race. The 24-year-old recently refused to rule out a move to England sparking speculation that a move is imminent.

It’s a frightening thought — at least from the perspective of City’s rivals — that the league’s most dominant side could be about to gain a player of his quality. Guardiola’s men were the only side to score more than 90 goals in the Premier League last season and with Fernandes in the side they would challenge their own record of 106.
