3. Minnesota Twins

The most surprising MLB team so far this year is without a doubt the Minnesota Twins. They currently sit at 37-17 and hold the best record in the entire league. Minnesota is obviously making easy work of the extremely weak AL Central, but do not be fooled into thinking this is not a good team.

The Twins have one of the best offenses in baseball and lead the AL in runs and home runs. Their front office has pulled off some incredibly shrewd moves, including landing Nelson Cruz, C.J. Cron and Jonathan Schoop who have combined for 30 home runs. Jose Berrios and a resurgent Jake Odorizzi lead a strong pitching staff that is third in the AL with a 3.71 ERA.

Unlike the Tampa Bay Rays, another semi-surprise contender, or the Cleveland Indians, the Twins are not as strapped for cash. Minneapolis is a bigger market, and the Twins are beginning to climb the league attendance rankings and should see even larger crowds when the weather heats up.

With the Indians struggling to keep up and likely on the verge of a rebuilding effort of their own, this is the year for the Twins to go all in and set themselves up to have a stranglehold over the league’s weakest divisions for several seasons before the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox are able to graduate all of their prospects to the big leagues.
