Take the time to check out this nice profile of De’Andre Hunter from SLAM if you want to get to know the fairly anonymous power forward and 2019 NCAA champion a little better.

“I’m eager to showcase my full game,” Hunter told SLAM. “I can do a lot more than I showed at UVA. There were flashes at times but I can dribble, shoot off the dribble do things people think I can’t do.

“I think my defense will help me a lot (in the NBA), and my versatility overall. I feel like there isn’t one thing on the court I can’t do. I think any team would need that. I think that will all translate just fine.”

Hunter also discussed his decision to return to school for his sophomore season after many believed he could have been a late-lottery pick in 2018:

“It taught me a lot. I knew my role would increase. So I knew I had to do everything I could to perfect my game to be the best player my team needed.”

Watching the 2018 championship game inspired him, Hunter told SLAM.

“I remember Donte (DiVincenzo) going crazy in their championship, and it seemed so far away at the time. I thought about how amazing it would be to be on that stage with all those people in the stadium. So just to be there, and then to win it was a surreal feeling.”

If you’re going to stay an extra year, winning a national championship as the go-to guy on both ends is the way to do it. Hunter seems to be locked in as a top-10 pick at this point.
