NFL quarterback power rankings: Patrick Mahomes takes No. 1
23. Eli Manning, New York Giants
In an unintentional way, Eli Manning has become one of the more polarizing sport’s figures in the city of New York. After forcing his way out of San Diego, he’s gone on to win two Super Bowls and has been named to four Pro Bowls during his 15-year career with the New York Giants.
Manning is 38-years old now and there’s been a lot of heated, long debate centered around how many days he has left as the team’s starting quarterback. He helped lead the Giants to the playoffs in 2016, but since he has gone 8-23.
With numerous teams around the NFL finding young stars at the position, Manning’s welcome is slowly wearing out in New York. Although, even with the team losing a lot of football games, his numbers haven’t been that bad.
Over the past two seasons, Manning has thrown for over 7,700 yards with 40 touchdowns. In 2018, he completed 66 percent of his passes and cut his interceptions down to the second-lowest, full single-season total of his career.
The money that’s attached to Manning is where the bulk of the issue lies with the signal caller. He carries a cap hit of over $23 million for this season, and he’s obviously not playing up to that dollar amount.
Daniel Jones was selected with the sixth-overall pick this past draft. Manning has seen better days, and the team may be ready to get some new blood at a position that’s been locked down for over a decade.
