NFL quarterback power rankings: Patrick Mahomes takes No. 1
18. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
One of the most talked about quarterbacks in the entire NFL is Dak Prescott. Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys landed him in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. All he did after that is take Tony Romo’s job, win AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, make the Pro Bowl and march into the playoffs.
The speculation surrounding Prescott is simple, it’s “is he good, or is he bad?”. Of course, the argument is deeper than just good and bad. The center of the debate is more “is he a product of his environment?”.
Meaning, does Prescott benefit from a top offensive line, a workhorse running back and not having to make too many decisions on his own? During his first two years, the argument answer slanted towards yes.
Last year, Prescott shifted that slant mightily towards the no side. He slumped his second season without Ezekiel Elliott for the full year after both had unreal rookie campaigns. But in 2018, Prescott took the reins and looked the part.
Prescott threw for 3,885 yards with 22 scores and eight picks, with a completion percentage over 67 percent. He also ran for 305 yards and scored six times on the ground.
The third-year player looked to be a leader for the Cowboys, and that could not have been more evident during the team’s Wild Card weekend win against the Seattle Seahawks.
Prescott finished the year strong and adding Amari Cooper helped. From Week 9 to the team’s playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams, he threw for 2,717 yards with 14 touchdowns and four picks.
