Jacob Heyward

Yes, this is the brother of Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward. Jacob Heyward has been rising through the ranks of the Giants prospect pool for a while. On paper, he may not seem like the prospect who’s going to turn everything around. He’s currently ranked as the Giants 30th-best prospect, but with a new regime giving him a chance, he seems revitalized.

He made it all the way to AAA last season, but started this year in AA. His numbers have been slightly better to start this year, with six home runs and a .264 average, but Heyward hasn’t focused on stealing bases. While we know he has that ability, he just hasn’t done it as much this season.

Heyward is the type of player who could come in and surprise a lot of people. On paper, he doesn’t feel like the type of guy to light the world on fire, but he keeps progressing every year after the Giants took a flier on him in the 18th round. With the state of the Giants prospect pool, they are going to have to give some of these fliers a chance to perform.

Kevin Pillar, Steven Duggar and Mike Yastrzemski are the Giants’ current starting outfield. They could use some reinforcements. Heyward could be one guy who helps out, and become one of the bright points for this once-storied franchise.
