The 25 best WWE NXT matches of all time
21. Kevin Owens (c) vs. Finn Bálor for the NXT Championship Ladder Match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn
To follow an epic match like Sasha Banks vs. Bayley for the NXT Women’s Championship is no easy feat. But when you have performers like Finn Balor and Kevin Owens, and you throw a ladder into the mix, it’s safe to say you’re going to see something very special. And special it was.
Despite being a full-time Superstar on the main roster, Owens returned to NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn to take back the NXT Championship which he’d lost to Balor in Tokyo. Balor came into Brooklyn in full Demon attire but Owens wasn’t impressed.
Balor would rely on his speed while Owens utilized his strength advantage. The match started at a slow and methodical pace. Once the ladders came into play, business picked up. Both men took some hard impacts on the unforgiving steel, including a fall that saw Owens take a flat back bump from the top of the ladder onto another ladder. This was the beginning of the end, as Balor would hit his Coupe de Grace from the top of the ladder before climbing up to retain his title.
