Donny van de Beek

Though Barcelona have already purchased 22-year-old central midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Ajax for the 2019-2020 season and beyond, they could add another 22-year-old Ajax CM in Donny van de Beek, who also has generated interest from rivals Real Madrid.

Last season, van de Beek emerged as a critical leader on a fantastic Ajax side, finishing with 9 goals and 10 assists in league play, in addition to a combined 5 goals and assists in 11 Champions League appearances.

Van de Beek played a key role in getting Ajax to the semifinals, where they were a last-gasp goal away from punching their ticket to facing Liverpool in the finals.

Barcelona have shown interest in talented players at all positions from fullback to centerback to striker, but adding more young talent to the center of the park is never a bad idea.

At 22, van de Beek has a world of potential, and it would be quite something if Barcelona were to raid Ajax for de Ligt, de Jong, and van de Beek.

All three players have Barcelona quality, and Barca do need to continue to get younger. So there’s nothing wrong with pursuing two 22-year-old CMs from the Amsterdam powerhouse.

Van de Beek can bring the attacking quality and end product that Barcelona need in midfield, especially after their poor performance in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals against Liverpool.
