5 players the Phoenix Suns should trade the No. 6 pick for
4. Jrue Holiday, New Orleans Pelicans
The first big domino for the Pelicans this offseason is Anthony Davis, who will surely be traded for a solid return. Holiday has already said he’s ready to be the face of the team when Davis is gone.
But if new lead executive David Griffin sees fit to tear it down further in concert with trading Davis, entertaining offers for Holiday would follow easily. However, he is due to make $26.1 million in each of the next two seasons with a $27 million player option for 2021-22.
The easiest path for the Suns to get Holiday, again according to RealGM’s Trade Machine (which allows certain current restrictions to be removed), is to send guard Tyler Johnson to the Pelicans. Johnson has to pick up his aforementioned $19.2 million player option for next season to be moved, but that is a foregone conclusion.
Holiday is more of a combo guard than a point guard, but a backcourt with he and Booker is an exciting possibility for Phoenix.
The question would be New Orleans willingly taking a clear 1-for-1 downgrade in talent. But the obvious inclusion of the No. 6 pick in a deal might be what pushes it into consideration for them, so from the current view Holiday should be on the Suns’ list of trade targets.
