3 options for Patriots at tight end after they release Seferian-Jenkins
By Kevin Scott
2. Antonio Gates
Wouldn’t it be fantastic to see two 38-year-olds — Watson and Gates — suit up together on the same team at the same position? Gates has said before that he will not play for another team besides the Chargers. But if Belichick makes the call, I think he at least answers the phone. It may strike him as his last chance to pursue a Super Bowl ring.
Gates is a shell of his former self, but he is incredibly smart and knows how to use his body to be effective, whether in the blocking or passing game. The Patriots have already shown they think age is irrelevant, so this may be a move they would consider.
