5 players who Bears need to be great in 2019
3. Anthony Miller
When the Bears spent a second round pick on Miller in the 2018 draft they hoped he’d turn into a valuable weapon for Trubisky. The former Memphis star showed flashes of talent during his rookie campaign, but he’ll need to be much more consistent in his second campaign to really help Chicago make a deep postseason run.
Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel garner the lion’s share of attention from opposing defenses, which should leave Miller with a lot of opportunities to compete against single coverage in the slot. That’s where his athleticism should give him the chance to make a lot of big plays this year.
For the record, Miller’s rookie year wasn’t a total loss. He managed to catch 33 passes for 423 yards and seven touchdowns. His ability to find the end zone was a particular boost for the Bears’ offense.
This season Miller must place a priority on being much more consistent. He must find a way to consistently help his offense keep the chains moving when adversity strikes. That will require better route running and improved hands. Miller needs to emerge as a consistent No. 3 receiver for Chicago if they want their offense to play as well as their defense.
