12. San Diego Padres, 31-29, 3rd in the NL West (ranked 9th last week)

The Padres dropped a weekend series against the lowly Marlins, losing two of three, and now have their hands full with the Phillies this week before taking on the Nationals and their improving roster. The pitching has been solid for the Padres this season, with a respectable team ERA of 4.09 on the season, but their offense is only averaging four runs per game.

Manny Machado continues to slowly turn things around at the plate and Hunter Renfroe has smashed 17 home runs on the season, but this team could really use Fernando Tatis Jr. The 20-year-old SS made a rehab start with the Padres AA affiliate Tuesday night and is inching closer to returning. Tatis Jr. is still one of the team leaders in bWAR, and his combination of explosive speed and power at the plate could be the dynamic game-changer the Padres need to kickstart their offense again.

11. Colorado Rockies, 31-28, 2nd in the NL West (ranked 20th last week)

The Rockies shot up the power rankings charts this week after a nine-game winning streak, which ended Tuesday night against the Cubs. But there are still question marks about this Colorado squad. For starters, they did just beat up on the Orioles, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays and none of those teams are playing well at the moment. The Rockies also saw their run totals jump up at home during their nine-game winning streak, scoring at least four runs or more in each of those games.

Finally, the Rockies just lost closer Wade Davis with an oblique strain that will keep him out until mid-June, which weakens the rest of the Rockies bullpen. There are a lot of unknowns with the Rockies and an away series with the Cubs should be a good litmus test for them. Regardless, they jumped into second place in the NL West after being five games below .500 just a week ago.
