In a shocking turn of events “The Aerial Assassin” has claimed the Best of the Super Juniors tournament trophy for the second time in his career.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning for most of the world, fans were treated to an absolute war between two of the greatest wrestlers on the planet.

The undefeated Los Ingobernables de Japon member, Shingo Takagi, came into this match riding the hottest streak of his career as noone in New Japan had pinned or submitted “The Dragon” since he landed in the promotion. Takagi was the heavily-favored winner for this contest, unlike his opponent.

Will Ospreay, the UK-born Chaos member, has been a staple of the Junior Heavyweight division in New Japan for quite some time now and had two BOSJ finals appearances and a finals win in his pocket going into this match.

The match was hellacious, full of innovative counters, superb strikes and myriad supercharged finishers.

Ospreay claimed he was going to “slay the dragon” in this match and he came in with that mindset in full effect as he hit a plethora of Oscutters and other finishers to attempt to weaken the juggernaut. Takagi, not to be outdone, pulled out his deep arsenal of lariats and drivers to try and keep Ospreay down for the three count.

But in the end it was Ospreay who hit The Hidden Blade, an Oscutter and a devastating Stormbreaker in succession to finally end The Dragon’s undefeated streak and win the Best of the Super Juniors.

Ospreay cut a promo after the match thanking Takagi as well as calling out Hiromu Takahashi, who is rumored to be returning soon from a neck injury. His pipe bomb, though, was his announcement that he would be dedicating himself to New Japan even more, as he would be moving to Japan.

The finals of this year’s BOSJ was an instant classic and will definitely be in the contention for match of the year.
