5 realistic trades the Yankees can make for a starting pitcher
2. Trevor Bauer
The Indians and Yankees had discussions about a move for Bauer this summer, but Cleveland elected to hold on to him to see if they could make a push in the AL Central. Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out for the Tribe. The Twins are already running away with the division which should push the Indians to explore what they can get for Bauer.
There are questions about how his outspoken personality will play in New York, but there’s no question he’s got the ability to be an ace on the mound. His 3.93 ERA this season isn’t great, but he did post a 2.21 mark in 2018. A move to a legitimate World Series contender might be just what he needs to get things going.
Bauer has one year of arbitration remaining so it’s fair for Cleveland to demand a big haul for his services. 28-year-old pitchers with the ability to be postseason aces don’t move for cheap.
Again, Estrada is going to be the first guy Cleveland asks for here. Jason Kipnis isn’t playing well and he’s significantly overpaid. Estrada would immediately give the Indians’ lineup an upgrade.
He won’t be enough to get the deal done on his own. It’ll take one more good prospect to get the transaction done. Cashman isn’t going to give up a top-10 guy, but the organization’s No. 13 prospect Everson Pereira will give Cleveland just enough value to part with Bauer.
