1. What will Patrick Mahomes do for an encore?

Once again, this feels like an obvious question, but it is worth asking. The Kansas City Chiefs will go as far as Patrick Mahomes takes them in 2019, and he is coming off one of the most explosive seasons in NFL history.

Just a year ago there were questions about whether or not Mahomes was ready to replace Alex Smith as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback. Mahomes quickly silenced any potential doubters by passing for over 5,000 yards and tossing 50 touchdown passes on his way to the MVP.

The Chiefs did a tremendous job surrounding Mahomes with elite talent, but some of those weapons have started to disappear. Kareem Hunt is gone and Tyreek Hill may be out for a significant part of the season due to suspension, making it tougher for Mahomes to do his thing.

Mahomes will now be asked to try and help elevate some of his teammates, which the elite quarterbacks in the league do, in his second full year as a starter. That is a lot to ask of guys like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, who have a track record of elite performance, so we have to see how Mahomes handles that pressure.

The league will also have a year of film to study on Mahomes, giving them a lot of material to make adjustments off of. If Mahomes has any kind of a sophomore slump, the Chiefs could be in a lot of trouble in 2019.
