Position: D
Current Team: Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have a number of tools at their disposal — a prospect that would allow them to trade from an advantageous position if aspirations to make a splash in the offseason are, in fact, a thing of reality.

At the focal point of the Flyers’ list of transferable assets is Shayne Gostisbehere — a high-risk, high-reward defender coming off a relatively disappointing 2018-19 campaign. His name has occupied the talk circuit of trade speculation for the better part of a few seasons, in that the need for offense-minded defensemen remains pressing at hockey’s top level. That Philadelphia has hitherto kept him is a testament to the degree to which the franchise believes in Gostisbehere’s output — this, in spite of calls for a move and struggles abound.

It is tricky to envision a scenario in which the Flyers’ administrative body deals “Ghost.” It is no secret that Chuck Fletcher is willing to field calls on the left-shot defender, but the fact that Gostisbehere’s value has reached a new low over the past few months places the organization in a problematized spot. Opting to sell would likely yield questionable results. Nonetheless, look for the 26-year-old to be central to trade boards in the months to come.
