After being on the receiving end of arguably the most disappointing first-round defeat in NHL history, one can bet that the Tampa Bay Lightning will be hungrier than ever to contend for Lord Stanley’s trophy in 2019-20 — a reality that places the burden of pressure on GM Julien BriseBois to hold the front during a long and trying offseason.

Home to some of the sport’s finest contracts, Tampa Bay will still have to battle the struggles of the salary cap era over the course of the summer. The need to sign Brayden Point — who amassed a whopping 41 goals and 92 points in 79 games — lies at the forefront of this endeavor, which means that cap space will have to be reallocated as soon as possible.

There are several candidates that fit the mould for what BriseBois must consider. And while the likes of Alex Killorn and Ryan Callahan are often at the helm of this narrative, J.T. Miller is surely part of the conversation too. Having tallied 13 goals and 47 points in 75 matchups — a quieter year for one of the league’s better offensively-minded centers — the 26-year old might just be the piece that buys the Bolts the room it needs…and perhaps a return of the promising variety.
