7. Justin Faulk

Age: 27
Position: D
Current Team: Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina is home to one of hockey’s top back ends. Fronted by the likes of Trevor van Riemsdyk, Jaccob Slavin, Brett Pesce, Dougie Hamilton, Calvin de Haan and Justin Faulk, the organization embarked upon an impressive run in the 2019 postseason, which culminated with an unfortunate sweep in the Eastern Conference Finals at the hands of the Boston Bruins.

So close, yet so far away from directly competing for the Stanley Cup, the Hurricanes’ priority in the offseason is obvious: add scoring and acquire top-end depth to avoid a similar exit next year. To do this, one of the club’s defensemen shall have to be swapped out.

Which brings us to Faulk.

Of all the team’s blue liners, Faulk has been — and still remains — the most recurring subject of trade talk. At 27, the defender is in the heat of his prime, and in turn offers interested parties a diverse skillset. Marked by an ability to ensure that defensive problems are addressed head-on, the present moment promises to bring a measure of resolution to the rumors surrounding Faulk’s future.
