NBA Mock Draft 2019: The chaos of this draft is only beginning
The idea here for weeks has been that the Heat simply need playmaking, but they are picking in a portion of the draft that is weak on those types of guys. Langford may not be lottery material after a freshman season at Indiana plagued by injury and poor play across the roster, but he still fits a need for the Heat while also maintaining their identity of size and versatility.
From Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated in his latest mock draft:
"“The feeling around the league continues to be that Langford will slip out of the lottery on draft night, and there’s a possibility he falls a bit further than that. He played through injuries during the season and does have a strong long-term track record as a scorer, and the uneven season he had has positioned him as more of a buy-low opportunity for someone. Langford’s jumper remains a big question, and he has to improve his game off the dribble, but there’s a good chance he’s better than what he showed at Indiana.”"
The fact remains, however, that Langford improved his play late in the season and put the Hoosiers on his back to fight to the bubble of the NCAA tournament on Selection Sunday. He can score from all three levels and has the size to one day grow into a multi-position defender for the Heat.
Lastly, Langford was invited on Wednesday morning to the green room in Brooklyn on June 20, indicating the league likely believes he will get drafted more highly than Woo.
