What will the sequel be about?

By far, the biggest question is what this game will touch on in terms of the plot. After Breath of the Wild, once Calamity Ganon is defeated, it seems that’s it. There are now no more dangers to Hyrule. But, that’s obviously not the case and if the trailer indicates anything, Ganon is still in play in some way, shape, or form.

From the very beginning of the trailer, there’s already a very dark and creepy tone. We know this game will be very dark, which is already confirmed by Aonuma. In an interview with IGN, he states, “The new Breath of the Wild or the sequel to it, it’s not necessarily going to be related to Majora’s Mask or inspired by it… What we showed you currently is a little darker,” which says a lot.

As for the trailer, we see a corpse which seems to be drawing energy from an arm attached to its chest. All we have is speculation, but we think the corpse may be of a Gerudo, who eventually is revived and turns into Ganondorf. It would definitely be an interesting take on the character.

Link and Zelda will definitely have a new enemy to face. We may even be able to play as Zelda, which would be exciting.

Most fans are comparing the trailer to Majora’s Mask. But, another game we’re drawing comparisons from is Twilight Princess. If anything, the trailer reminds us more of that game than Majora’s Mask. The music has a ton of Twilight Princess vibes, especially with the music.

Other things that point to a Twilight Princess connection is the actual arm connected to the corpse’s chest. It has some sort of bracelet or other form of jewelry which looks very similar to certain symbols encountered in the game. If we somehow see the Twili race return in this game, it would be spectacular.

Speaking more on the trailer, we then see Hyrule castle begin to float and seemingly go into the sky. This can also be a connection to Skyward Sword. This theory may not hold up though, considering the land of Hyrule was established under the clouds. It could be a nod to Skyloft, however.

Quite frankly, there’s only so much we can touch on. It’s frustrating, in a sense, because we want to know so much more with the little information that’s given. The best thing is we know it’s in development and we’re extremely excited to learn more in the coming months.
