4. IF Derek Dietrich

Derek Dietrich has been quite the find for the Reds, with 17 home runs, 37 RBI and a .961 OPS thus far after signing a Minor League deal. He’s also taking walks at the best rate of his career (9.5 percent), with a strikeout rate that has gone up from a one-time career best to 21.8 percent on the whole so far this year.

But after hitting 12 home runs in May, Dietrich has zero so far in June while striking out nine times in 34 plate appearances (entering Thursday). Seven of his home runs have come against the Pittsburgh Pirates alone.

Dietrich has multi-position utility, playing mostly at second base with Scooter Gennett (groin) out (34 games), but he’s also had nine games at first base and eight in the outfield so far this year too. Gennett may start a rehab assignment soon, and when he’s back with the Reds Dietrich will most likely become a super-utility player.

Dietrich has been a useful player at times in his career, but nothing like this in terms of power numbers. The Reds are still in a position to sell high here, but they may have to move quickly once Gennett is back in the fold.
