1. Eric Paschall, Forward, Villanova

The Step Back Big Board Ranking: 40

Paschall was a big riser after the NBA Draft Combine, where he measured an impressive 6-foot-7 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, and weighed in at 254 pounds. Playing functionally as a 3 at that size, Paschall projects to be a useful small-ball 4 in the right spot at the next level. He is one of the better shooters in this class, hitting 39.3 percent on 163 3s from NBA range, by far the highest volume of such shots this year. He is an effective floor spacer who can also dribble out of trouble and is a useful finisher.

Paschall might end up going in the first round if things break right, but easily could fall into the middle of the second round because of his lack of on-ball creation skill, as well as his weird defensive fit. But put him on a team with an athletic 5 that can provide vertical spacing and rim protection, and Paschall could be a nice compliment as a stretch 4, able to punish mismatches from the post and provide spacing gravity above the break. A team like Dallas, with a roster built to generate mismatches and two productive vertical spacing threats in Maxi Kleber and Kristaps Porzingis, could maximize Paschall’s skill set and get a very useful role player from the No. 37 pick.
